The beautiful city of Renton, Washington can be located within King County and is home to approximately 100,000 people. Renton borders Lake Washington on the southeast and is just a short drive from downtown Seattle.

Today, Renton is best known as the final assembly point for Boeing 737 aircrafts, but its history revolves more around the coal mining industry.

Coal was first discovered in the area by a man named Erasmus M. Smithers, who is also credited with originally founding the town. As the coal mining industry in Renton began to grow along side timber processing, Renton was able to officially be recognized as a city in 1901.

As the years went by, the city began to evolve and grow, becoming home to Pacific Car and Foundry, along with the McLendon Hardware store that was originally known as the ‘U.S Junk Company,’ back in 1927. During World War II, the cities population saw a strong increase in population after Boeing built a factory to produce B-29 Superfortress aircrafts.

As time moves on, the city of Renton continues to grow and prosper in the Pacific Northwest. The Seattle Seahawks NFL team moved their training facilities from Kirkland to Renton in 2008 and development projects continue to bring new people to the city every day.

There are also a number of notable people that currently live, or have lived within the city limits of Renton. Jamal Crawford, who currently plays in the NBA for the Los Angeles clippers and Marshawn Lynch, who finished out his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks a few years ago have both spent many years in the Renton area throughout their lives.

Clint Eastwood worked as a lifeguard here during the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, while Sean Kinney, the drummer for the rock band ‘Alice in Chains’, was born and raised in Renton. And one of the most famous guitar players in the world, Jimi Hendrix, lived in Renton for part of his childhood and is buried in the city’s Greenwood cemetery.
