- Snap Peas: if you missed the March plant, you can lay your seeds in early July and count on a tasty Fall harvest. Home-sown peas will generally last longer than store bought.
- Basil: Fresh herbs are expensive at the local market, so why not grow your own?! In June, as the soil warms up, buy young plants or sow your own seeds. This aromatic herb will soothe the soul and add oomph to pizza, pasta and desert!
- Greens: Arugula, cabbage, kale and endive are some of the easiest and highest yielding plants to grow in Seattle. Raised beds are best for growing these leafy treats, as pooling water can ruin your plants, so you can feel confident that your balcony or terrace is up to task.
- Rosemary: This lovely evergreen has many culinary uses ranging from roast chicken to lemonade, and can be grown quite easily in Washington. Purchase nursery born plants and some well draining pots and you can be sure of a bountiful summer. Rosemary also makes for fantastic homegrown incense.
