Tips and Tricks for Renting your Home during Vacation

You look like you could use a vacation! You look like you could use a loooong vacation… and we’re here to help you do it.

Renting or swapping your house, condo or apartment at home while you’re away on vacation can help cover some of the costs of travel. Sites like, Airbnb, Craigslist and HomeExchange have made it incredibly easy for people to travel the world while maintaining the amenities and comfort of home.

Here are some tips to help get your home ready for guests and to help to “sell” your place online:

  • Paint with neutral colours and maintain the same wall colour on smaller, adjoining rooms. Neutral colours help off-set any elements of your home that might seem dated, like an old couch or artwork with cheap frames and painting two adjacent rooms the same colour will make them seem bigger. Trust us.
  • Say bye-bye to clutter because the kitchen can be a real deal breaker if you don’t do it right. Just because you have the latest single-cup coffee maker, a toaster oven, waffle iron and a soda machine doesn’t mean you have to show them off! Put appliances away and make as much room on the counter as possible. Focus on a single decorative vase of utensils and nothing more.
  • Make your bathroom look like a spa by rolling, not stacking hand towels, buy new scented candles and crisp-white bath robes to hang on the back of the door. Add the extra touch and make your guests feel special.
  • Get rid of anything too personal and focus on your personality. While the picture of you and your boyfriend enjoying a bottle of wine underneath the Eiffel Tower is really cute, it can leave guests feeling awkward and invasive. Instead, hang up the acrylic painting you bought from the green stall along the Seine or buy a poster from the mall. While it can be hard to de-personalize and de-clutter, Storrage is here to make it easier. Our storage containers are both waterproof and fireproof and our app allows you to keep track of each individual item you store and in which box, making retrieval (not to mention peace of mind) easy to maintain while you’re enjoying your holiday.
